4 Amazing Experiences in South America for Couples

4 amazing experiences for couples in South America

If you and your loved one are looking for a travel destination with amazing things to do and have shortlisted South America, you need to do more than just shortlist it — you need to choose it. Nature has blessed this beautiful part of the world with a wealth of inspiring scenery, places to visit and activities to throw yourself into. From marvelling at waterfalls to admiring eclipses in Chile and more, this is one destination you should strike off your bucket list before you grow old.

Seeing the Iguazu Falls up close in Argentina

Visit Argentina, and you can’t leave without visiting the town of Iguazu, which is famous for the mighty Iguazu Falls. These powerful waterfalls are almost overwhelming in their beauty and you can get some magnificent photos, both on the Argentine side and the Brazilian side of the falls. One of the fabulous things is you don’t have to just stand on the sidelines and view the falls from there. If you’re prepared to pay, an on-site tour will take you up to the falls and let you admire them from a safe distance on the water. The noise is immense — and so is the beauty.

Catching the eclipse in Chile

An eclipse is always a magical event. Imagine how magical it would be, then, to witness an eclipse in Chile’s beautiful Elqui Valley. The area is renowned around the world as a location for stargazing, so when the eclipse takes place in July 2019, this will be the go-to place to experience it. The Elqui Valley isn’t only about the stars, though; it’s a wine region, too, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sip a crisp wine together. In fact, why not combine the two?

Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru

Let’s face it: the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is awesome. Sitting nonchalantly up in the Andes mountains, shrouded in mist, the site has a wondrous quality about it. Hiking the trail will bring you closer together than ever before in four inspirational days of adventure and discovery. The climb up to the ruins themselves is strenuous, taking around 90 minutes, but the view is worth it!

Exploring the Galapagos Islands, near Ecuador

This volcanic archipelago out in the Pacific Ocean was the inspiration for Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution after he witnessed the different species there. And what beautiful species there are. A trip in summer rewards you with the chance to see penguins and humpback whales (although the water will be a touch cold, so you’d need a wetsuit if you were venturing into it). One of the most endearing things about the islands is that the animals are so unused to predators, human or animal, that they go about their natural business as if you weren’t there, making for some candid shots.

When it comes to providing natural wonders and amazing activities, the countries of South America are right up there with the very best. If you pursue any of the above options you are sure to experience some unforgettable moments and have a magical time together.
